 Capital city of the San Martín region, is the point of departure of our Tingana magic tours, located at 860 m .a.s.l. originally named as “ Santiago de los Ocho Valles de Moyobamba”, is the first city founded by the Spaniards in the Peruvian jungle.
The legend about the existence of a great kingdom in Angaiza, between the blue mountains, when there was a huge amount of gold; constituted the major gold quarry of the Inca Empire, and led the Spanish conquerors to the Moyo river during the XVI century.Taking advantage of the large esplanade were it is located, they founded the city of Moyobamba, a name derived from the quechua expression Muyupampa, which means “Circular Prairie”. This allowed the formation of natural balconies from where you can watch the beauty of the surrounding forest.
Today Moyobamba is also known as the “Orchid Capital”, thanks to its weather and geographical location, privileged with the existence of more than 2,500 different varieties.
